Versatile Rainey staying in touch

Houston (Texas) Northbrook athlete Derrick Rainey saw his stock take off in the spring, picking up his first three scholarship offers of the process. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound Rainey is now in the midst of summer camp season and working to add even more offers to his total.

"I went to the Texas camp last week. That was pretty cool," Rainey said. "I'm pretty content (with the current offers), but I'm just going to work hard and see what else I can get. For what I got right now it's pretty good."

Next on Rainey's camp schedule are stops at Texas A&M and Baylor. He has already received offers from Arizona, Iowa State and TCU and Minnesota is pursuing hard as well. Iowa State was the first school to come through with an offer and remains a team he is highly interested in.

"Iowa State, when they first offered me I was very excited because that's a Big 12 school and the Big 12 is what I want to play in," Rainey said. "Right now they are doing pretty good, but I just want to take my visits and see from there. What they are telling me is pretty cool, but I've just got to see for myself."

Rainey and Iowa State assistant coach Jay Rodgers have continued to stay in contact during the summer months and are working on getting him up for an official visit during Northbrook's bye week this fall. That trip should go along ways towards answering Rainey's biggest concern about the Cyclones.
