Wilson's big day looms
The calendar turns to July on Tuesday, and for Keiron Wilson, that means he can turn his calendar to the page with a date he's had circled for awhile.
July 26 is a big day for Wilson, a 6-foot, 175-pound linebacker/defensive back from Mobile (Davidson), Ala.
"It's a pretty big day for me," Wilson said.
He'll spend that day in Oxford, Miss., working out at Ole Miss' invitation-only camp, knowing the Rebels' coaches are looking for one specific thing before making a decision to offer a scholarship or not.
"They probably want to see me work at safety a little bit more," Wilson said. "I'll do it well. A lot of coaches came down to my spring practices and to my spring game and they e-mailed me and said they liked me at safety."
Wilson spent last season working at linebacker, but his size dictates a move to the secondary at the collegiate level. Ole Miss, Wilson said, is recruiting him at safety. It's a move Wilson looks forward to making.
"I can see the field more and make plays," Wilson said.
Wilson has camped this summer at Auburn, UAB and South Alabama. The Blazers and Jaguars have extended scholarship offers, but Wilson wants to play on a bigger stage. Specifically, he wants to play in the Southeastern Conference, and an Ole Miss offer would allow that dream to come true.
"I'm very eager right now, for real," Wilson said. "Ole Miss is one of the schools I'll be looking at a lot."
