Collins adds to SMU offensive line class

Take a look at the early 2009 recruiting class for SMU and you will find that the Mustangs are off to an impressive start. Take a closer look at the offensive line commits that they have brought in and the class takes on an even stronger form. On Wednesday, SMU got another strong addition to that offensive line in Keller, Texas offensive tackle Bryan Collins.

"SMU is where I'm going to go," Collins said. "I liked them before they knew about me from the beginning. Then they found out about me and they liked me. My parents like the school because it's close to the Metroplex and close to my house. I like the campus, the coaching staff is cool. It sounds like a great place to be."

The imposing class of offensive linemen that SMU is bringing in was actually one of the appeals to Collins who plays for a very strong offensive line of his own in high school.

"They've got one of the best offensive lines in this class," he said. "I've met them when we went to camps and I've seen them in other camps. I met when we went to the little day camp."

Collins, who chose SMU over offers from Air Force, Houston, Iowa State and Rice, will be joining an offensive line class that includes DeSoto, Texas OG Chris Atchison, Refugion, Texas guard Wayne Frazier, Sugar Land (Texas) Fort Bend Austin center Ben Hughes and Aledo offensive tackle Christian Miller.

Included among the offers that that group of linemen has amassed are Tulsa, Arizona, Houston, Syracuse, UCF, Rice and several others.

But Collins had several reasons to pick SMU.

"I like how it was a good education and a good place to come out of," he said. "I like the coaching staff. They were cool when I went down there. They made me feel like home. It was close to my home, the metroplex, and it's close to my friends."

Collins' plans for the rest of the summer are to continue to work out with his team in preparation for the fall.
