Alofipo sees the offers roll in
TJ Alofipo has seen his stock rise dramatically this off-season. The 6'4", 240-pound inside linebacker from Nevada is now up to 12 scholarship offers, including Mountain West Conference schools Colorado State, Wyoming, UNLV, San Diego State and Western Athletic Conference member Hawaii.
In addition to the scholarship offers, Alofipo was named the sixth best player in Nevada and the 57th-best inside backer in the country by rivals.com. Last year Alofipo managed 73 tackles and 13 sacks for Silverado High School in Las Vegas, which went 10-1 and lost in the state playoffs.
"This year I don't just want to play, I want to be a captain and that is how I am spending my summer," said Alofipo.
While the college offers are coming in quickly, Alofipo lists Hawaii as his favorite presently. He says he is originally from American Somoa and he moved to America at age six. The chance to get back to the islands interests him. He also has family in the area and would like to play in front of them.
"(Factors in my decision include) Where my family is, where I get to play linebacker and I want to major in sports medicine or something like that," he said.
Colorado State is also one of his top schools presently. Alofipo said the Rams coaching staff thinks he can play early in Fort Collins. Colorado State may be one of several schools to get a visit from the linebacker this fall. Alofipo also said he may visit Army, Hawaii, Utah State and San Diego State.
