Alabama center gets high marks

Ole Miss has no experienced center for the 2008 season and both athletes vying for the starting nod will be juniors leaving the Rebels in the market for a center for the future and one prospect was on campus showcasing his talents at the Ole Miss senior "Elite" camp on Saturday.

"Camp went really good," said Hoover (Spain Park HS), Ala. prospect Jesse Grisham. "Before camp, coach (offensive line coach Mike Markuson) was just asking to me about the upcoming season, but during camp he told me that he liked what he saw; he said he liked my feet and my technique."

It wasn't Grisham's first visit to Ole Miss, but it was the first time he attended an Ole Miss camp. Grisham previously lived in Iuka, Miss. and is familiar with the campus and has attended several Ole Miss games.

"We really love Ole Miss," Grisham said. "We really like the atmosphere - it's a great school."

While the 6-foot-4, 285 pound Grisham didn't leave camp with an offer in hand, he may have improved his chances as one other prospect that Ole Miss was interested in was apparently a no show for camp. New Orleans prospect Joey Fontana had told Ole Miss previously that he would attend camp, but was spotted on campus on Saturday. Fontana had cautioned that his family vacation plans could interfere with him attending camp.

Meanwhile, Grisham said that Markuson told him that the Rebels want to evaluate him some more before deciding if they'll offer.

"He said they'll come to one of my fall games and will be in touch," Grisham said.

One thing that Markuson likely didn't see and is looking to evaluate is Grisham's snapping ability. There weren't many situations at camp where that aspect could be evaluated.

"My (high school) coach put together a film of me snapping the football and we dropped that off on Saturday for him to evaluate," Grisham said.

Grisham currently has offers from UAB and ULM along with Division IAA schools Jacksonville State and South Alabama.

He has a 2.8 GPA and made an 18 on his first ACT attempt and plans to re-take the test in October.
