Pahokee’s Byrd picks up more offers

Pahokee High School cornerback Jarvis Byrd has become a hot commodity on the recruiting trail. Byrd recently picked up two new offers and now has a Big Ten team picking up their interest.

"I just got offers from Kent State and Ball State," said the 5 foot 10, 175-pound Byrd. "Now I have offers from those two, Troy, Arkansas State, Buffalo, Western Michigan and Southern Mississippi."

A new team has started showing interest in Byrd.

"I have been talking to the Purdue coaches. They want to see my film from the first three games and then they will decide whether to offer or not."

The one Florida school showing the most interest is FAU.

"I talk to Coach Williams and he is telling me they want to see my test scores before offering."

Byrd and his teammates are preparing to open the season against Olive Branch High School out of Mississippi in Miami.

"We have been running the dike everyday from 12 to 3. Next Monday we go full pads. I am looking to have a great year and win another state title."

Byrd has decided to announce his college decision on August 30th.

"I am going to announce my decision with Vincent (Smith) and Brandin (Hawthorne) on ESPN. I am still going to take all five visits after I announce my decision though," said Byrd.

Pahokee has won back to back state titles in Class 2B.
