Hawkeyes close to offering 2010 prospect?

The Hawkeye athletic program has had pretty good success with prospects coming out of South Dakota. Now, Coach Todd Lickliter has his eyes on a 2010 hoops prospect that he may be close to offering.

"I think Iowa is close to offering," said Cody Larson, who attends the same high school that produced Wisconsin star Joe Krabbenhoft." I hadn't talked to them a whole lot before this summer, so I am not real familiar with them, but I am planning to visit there this fall and they are close enough to home."

The 6-foot-7 and 200 pound power forward just finished up his summer AAU run with the Dakota Schoolers and it ended on a high note for Larson.

"We played pretty well as a team. I was a little banged up in Vegas, so I didn't play as well as I would have liked. But, I played well in Kansas City, so it was pretty fun."

Normally, Larson plays the wing or power forward spot, but in July he moved to the post and in a way, it expanded his overall game.

"I like to play inside and out and I can go off the dribble pretty well. But, this summer we didn't have a five so I got a lot of experience in the post. I generally play more of a three or a four, so it was fun going down there and banging around," he said.

Larson says he currently holds offers from Drake, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Colorado State, and Nebraska, with Iowa and Gonzaga showing enough interest to indicate that they may be close to offering. This fall, Larson plays to visit both Iowa and Gonzaga and he hopes to come home with a scholarship offer from both schools.

However, he wants to take his time before making any decisions on a potential commitment.

"I want to find a place that is the best fit for me," he said. That is the most important thing in my mind. Joe Krabbenhoft's advice to me was to take my visits, be patient, and you will find the best school for you. That is what I plan to do."
