2010 Tampa LB picks up first offer

Tampa (Fla.) Hillsborough is home to one of the state's top defensive backs from the Class of 2010 in cornerback Khiry McQuay.

The talented junior recently picked up his first verbal offer of the recruiting process and it shouldn't be long until more schools follow suit.

"Yes, Nebraska offered me," McQuay confirmed. "It was a verbal offer and they called my coach to let him know. I think that was on Friday.

"It's nice that they're really interested in me. They've been sending me a lot of mail for a while. I've just been hearing from a lot of schools, though. I get mail from almost every Division I school."

At 5-foot-8 and 155 pounds, McQuay not be large in stature but he has plenty of time to grow. He has already run the 40-yard dash in 4.55 seconds and that should improve as well.

He recently took a couple of trips to his current favorite, and if he receives an early offer he might just commit.

"I've been to a couple of Florida State games so far," he said. "I really like them a lot. I'd say they're my favorite. I'm going to the Boston College-Florida State game the week after this or sometime around then I think.

"I just like the history behind the place. I'll tell you a story from when I was there. There was a guy in the locker room who stepped on the Seminole head and everybody got on top of him because they're real traditional there. I like the tradition and the players a lot."

McQuay noted that he is good friends with Moses McCray, a freshman defensive tackle with the Seminoles.

In addition to Nebraska and Florida State, McQuay has heard a lot from Boston College, Duke, Michigan and Michigan State in particular. He said he is also very interested in the Spartans.
