South Florida back waiting on offers

Miami (Fla.) Southridge running back Branden Oliver may still be waiting on his first scholarship offer but he has proven on numerous occasions that he has the ability to play at the next level. On Thursday night he will attempt to prove it against one of the nation's most highly-respected programs, Miami (Fla.) Northwestern.

"We've got Miami Northwestern," Oliver said. "I think I'm going to do good. I'm just worried about the defense and the O-Line and everybody else on the field with me."

Unfortunately for Oliver, he has had limited opportunities to showcase himself this season as he hasn't played in two weeks.

"We've had two weeks off," he said. "We had a buy week and one of our games got cancelled because of lightening. Everybody's ready."

Oliver is in contact with FIU, FAU, Ohio and Colorado State and he has had coaches from Iowa State and Kansas State come out to watch him play.

"I'm open to anyone right now," he said. "I can't get picky or anything like that so I'm just waiting patiently. Whatever comes comes but I really want to make it to a D-I program."

At 5-foot-7 Oliver is a slightly undersized back but he has the speed to compensate as he was clocked at 4.32 this past summer running on a track. However, despite his size, Oliver does not see it as a limitation.

"I don't really see that as a big deal," he said. "Most people say it but I watch a lot of running back highlights. Some are shorter than me but some are the same height like Barry Sanders and Maurice Drew. They prove that it's not really an issue."
