Miller is 'Middle Man' of third down package
MORGANTOWN--At 6-foot-5, 250 pounds, Julian Miller is much taller and leaner than the typical nose tackle. But that hasn't stopped the redshirt freshman from excelling in his unexpected role as an interior lineman. Miller has found a niche as a rare third down specialist who can both stuff the run and rush the passer.
Throughout his redshirt year and into the summer preceding this season, Miller figured to project as a pass rushing defensive end who would use his length and quickness to make life uncomfortable for opposing offensive tackles. But that was before the defensive coaching staff realized it had a glut of pass rushing ends on the second team line. To put Miller's size and athleticism to best use, WVU defensive line coach Bill Kirelawich oversaw his pupil's transition from an outside edge rusher into an interior bull rusher.
