Santa Cruz athlete makes the call

After picking up his first offer about two weeks ago from the Oregon State Beavers, Santa Cruz (CA) Santa Cruz athlete Zeke Sanders took some time to think it over. But he didn't take too much time.

Last Sunday he called up Coach Dave Ungerer and Coach Mike Rileyand ended his recruitment by committing to play for the Beavers.

Riley's response?

"He was real happy," said Sanders. "He said it was a big day for Oregon State!"

Though it might seem that this was a quick decision, Sanders' recruitment and choice wasn't just something that happened suddenly.

"They (Oregon State) have been recruiting me since the beginning," said Sanders. "That really made a difference."

Coach Dave Ungerer has been the point man in his recruitment. Ungerer was on the sidelines for his 132 yard, two touchdown performance this past weekend in Santa Cruz's hard fought 27-20 victory over rival San Lorenzo Valley.

While Sanders hasn't yet visited the Oregon State campus, he has been following their season on TV. And the USC game sure caught his eye.

"That was awesome!" said Sanders of the Beavers win over the Trojans.

Sanders plans on going up for an unofficial visit during the Civil War game and plans on taking his official once his high school season is over.

Sanders currently plays running back and safety for the Santa Cruz Cardinals, but it will the safety position he will focus on at Oregon State.
