Florida WR hints at favorites
Bradenton (Manatee), Fla., wide receiver Eric Williams isn't naming favorites yet.
However, the three-star wide receiver admitted on Wednesday night that a small handful of schools _ and maybe one in particular _ has gotten his attention in recent weeks.
Williams, who has 12 scholarship offers from schools all over the country, insisted Wednesday that he's looking at all of those programs very seriously, "but I'm very high on Ole Miss right now."
In the spirit of fairness as well as total disclosure, Williams had similar praise for Purdue, Nebraska and South Carolina, but Ole Miss is clearly going to be a major player for his signature over the next three months.
"Since they brought Jevan (Snead) in, they've been slinging the ball around with Houston Nutt," Williams said, referring to Ole Miss' offense. "I was talking to (Ole Miss wide receivers) Coach (Ron) Dickerson about it. I said I was a guy that could run the Wild Rebel offense the same way that Dex (McCluster) runs it. That's something I am very high on."
Williams, who has 28 receptions for more than 500 yards and five touchdowns so far this season, said he's going to take four visits before he makes a final decision. The 5-foot-10, 194-pound speedster said he won't compare one program against another. Instead, he'll go by feel.
"do like them all in their own way," Williams said. "All of them have their own programs. What Ole Miss has is Wallace leaving and maybe Shay leaving. That leaves Dex and Breaux. So that gives me a chance to come in and get playing time and that's something I look at.
"With Purdue, it's the same way. They have a lot of seniors leaving and they've been a great football program over the years. I'm excited about them, too. At South Carolina, Coach (Steve) Spurrier loves to throw the ball around and they're always looking for playmakers."
Williams said Manatee will open the playoffs in two weeks. Once the season is over, he'll line up official visits.
