Bateman plans January enrollment at ASU
Kemonte Bateman, one of Arizona State's most highly regarded 2008 signees, informed ASUDevils.com Saturday that he has achieved a qualifying ACT score and will enroll at the school in January.
After not meeting initial eligibly requirements to join the Sun Devils in August, Bateman elected to not play at the junior college level, and instead focus on re-testing in an effort to be certified by the NCAA Clearinghouse for the spring semester.
One of three Rivals100 prospects to sign with the Sun Devils in 2008, the 6-foot-0, 175 pound Bateman was ranked No. 99 overall in the class and No. 17 at the wide receiver position out of Los Angeles (Calif.) Crenshaw, where he was a classmate of current Sun Devil Clint Floyd.
Bateman said he needed just a one point improvement on the ACT going into his final opportunity to take the exam in early December, and he improved by three points, to a score of 22.
He is expected to participate in spring football next year, and immediately factor into the depth chart, even though he will have five years to play four seasons in terms of eligibility.
As a senior in 2007, Bateman had 46 catches for 739 yards and nine touchdown, earning all-city first-team and all-state honors. He was Receiver of the Year in Los Angeles.
