Berg sets three visits

Neptune Beach, Fla., cornerback Marcus Berg has set an official visit to Ole Miss for Jan. 16 Ole Miss. He has trips planned to Memphis on Jan. 23 Memphis and to Bethune-Cookman on Jan. 30.

If Ole Miss offers, those last two trips probably won't happen.

"Ole Miss leads," Berg said.

Berg's hold-up has been the ACT. He took it again this past Saturday and needs two composite points to meet the NCAA's initial-eligibility requirements.

"I felt like I did good, better than last time," Berg said.

Berg, a three-star prospect as rated by, will visit with his Fletcher High School teammate, four-star wide receiver Lamar Scruggs. Scruggs is planning to visit South Florida, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Illinois and Florida in January, though recruiting insiders believe the Rebels and Gamecocks are the two finalists.

"I've told him Ole Miss is leading for me, but I don't want to have any impact on his decision," said Berg, who is close friends with Scruggs. "I know he likes both of them."

Asked what he'll be looking for during his visit to Oxford, Berg said he just wants to get a feel for the program and the environment that surrounds it.

"I'm not afraid of competition, but I want a chance to get on the field early," Berg said. "I want to see if there is a home environment and in a place where people want you."
