Three-star receiver looking for a home

Mardrecas Hood could be one of the deep threat receivers that fits right into Dan Mullen's spread offense.

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound three-star recruit with 4.5 speed and a 39-inch vertical showed his skills in helping Pickens County (Ala.) to a 11-game winning streak and into the third round of the playoffs.

"We did pretty decent," Hood said. "I'm pretty proud of our team as a whole. We did good compared to the past couple of years of what has been going on at the school. We went on an 11-game winning streak to end the season and were 11-1 going into that last game."

Hood led the Tornadoes with 29 catches for 1,057 yards (36.4 avg.) and 19 touchdowns during his senior campaign. He hauled in 16 catches for 505 yards and six touchdowns his junior season despite missing four games with an ankle injury and had 833 yards and nine scores as a sophomore.

He attributes his successful 2008 season to first-year Pickens County head coach Patrick Plott and his spread offensive attack.

"We have a lot of athletes and Coach Plott brought in the spread," Hood said. "That helped us out a lot. That put a lot of our athletes on the field at one time instead of just having a couple of them on there."

Hood is hoping to play in the same type of offensive system when he reaches college next season.
