Local junior standout claims three offers

Starkville (Miss.) High School has had it's share of big time players in recent years.

Travis Outlaw of the Portland Trail Blazers is a former Yellow Jacket along with current five-star power forward Latavious Williams.

Next in line could be junior forward Rashad Perkins. The 6-foot-5, 200-pounder already has three offers and has a three-star rating from Rivals.

Perkins holds early offers from Mississippi State, UAB and Alabama.

"Things are going along pretty good," Perkins said. "I've got a few good colleges looking at me. I think it's good for what it is being my junior year. I'm glad they think that I am on the level that I can play college ball. That just makes me play harder. I'm trying to get recognition from everybody."

Perkins is also receiving letters from Arkansas, Georgetown, LSU, Penn State and Southeastern Louisiana. He is hoping to draw some interest from Florida, Memphis and Illinois over the coming months.

While many would think that the Bulldogs would be the frontrunner to land this hometown prospect but that may not necessarily be the case.

"Right now I'm thinking that would be too close to home," Perkins said. "That's just what I'm thinking right now. You know how people just want to get out on their own. I don't really know about that yet."

Perkins is originally from Chicago and moved to Starkville when he was in the seventh grade. He lives with his father in Mississippi while he mother still resides in Illinois.

Perkins is averaging around 16 points, eight rebounds and three blocks per game as a junior after putting up 11 points and six boards a contest as a sophomore.
