Safety Joe Rippe talks about official visit to Army

Safety Joe Rippe was amongst the group of recruits who made their way this weekend to Army, as they try to make that final college evaluation just before Signing Day. It also served as an opportunity for Rippe and his fellow prospects to meet Coach Rich Ellerson and staff for the first time.

For Rippe, he remains a "hot" prospect on the Black Knights must get list and had an exciting official visit to Army this weekend. "I liked it a lot," shares Rippe in describing his visit to the historical West Point campus. "I had a really good one-on-one with Coach Ellerson and he talked about turning the program around and I even asked him if it were possible for me to run track, and he said that he encourages that. "It was only last week that the safety out of Carmel (IN) Carmel High School had narrowed his list down to two, when he declared that "it's Army and Purdue … I'm pretty high on Army, more than Air Force right now, because Army has been in contact with me a lot more and I like the staff more."

Well the landscape of recruiting is never without surprises or recruits changing their minds, especially when only two days remain before National Signing Day.

So, was Rippe ready to say yes to Army? In the case of the 6-foot-2, 205 hard hitting safety, his final list has changed slightly. According to the prospect from the state of Indiana, Purdue has dropped off last week and Air Force has jumped back into the picture.

Rippe, who was hosted by freshman safety, Jack Finan plans on taking an official visit to Air Force either next weekend or the weekend that follows. "Right now I see Army and Air Force as interchangeable," notes Rippe.
