Pennsylvania QB has an offer
While most fans are still talking about how the Class of 2009 turned out for their school coaches have been devoting attention to high school juniors for quite some time.
Easton (Pa.) Wilson Area junior quarterback Tyler Smith received a lot of early attention and already holds an offer from a Big East school. While he's thrilled to have that offer on the table he's also hoping there's more where that came from.
"I've been getting mail from all over," Smith explained. "I just got back from UConn's Junior Day. I'm going to Maryland this coming weekend and Pitt the following weekend. I might check out UVa at some point, too."
While several schools have already made their interest in Smith clear, UConn has gone the extra mile to prove that they are serious.
"Connecticut has been in and out (of the school)," he said. "Pitt, UVa, Maryland and Illinois have been there, too. Richmond was in and Temple was as well.
"UConn has offered me already. Pitt came in and said they're going to offer. I'm expecting an offer from them within a couple of weeks. Maryland said they want to see me throw before they offer.
"Some other schools want me to come in for camps over the summer."
Despite the early offer from the Huskies, Smith does not yet have a favorite.
"No, I'm pretty much open to anything. I'm going to wait this out and probably take all five of my official visits down the road."
Smith said he would weigh factors such as a school's location and offensive system heavily.
As a junior this fall he completed 51-percent of his passes for 3,000 yards and 35 touchdowns against 11 interceptions. He also rushed for more than 500 yards.
