Pickett has early favorite

Cedar Park (Tex.) defensive stud Michael Pickett hasn't made it to his senior season yet, but already has an idea of what he is looking for in a college as well as an early favorite. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound safety/linebacker was in Fort Collins last fall and the Vista Ridge High Schooler liked what he saw.

"I think once I send my junior tape I will get an offer from CSU," Pickett said. "It is a beautiful campus up there. I really want to go back. It really felt like home. If I got an offer from them, I think I would probably commit."

Currently, Pickett has no scholarship offers, but in addition to his interest in Colorado State, he is also talking to Central Florida and Baylor. Pickett runs a 4.6 40-yard dash, bench presses 230 pounds and squats 310. He also claims a 3.2 grade point average and plans on majoring in computer science. Last season Pickett accounted for more than 80 tackles and three forced fumbles.

"The season didn't go all that good, but we had a lot of good players on the team," Pickett said. "I was playing outside linebacker and transfered to strong safety. We have a new coach now and he is getting us big and strong, so I am planning on being big and strong, around 205 pounds."

He added that his strength is dropping back in pass coverage and his ability to tackle.

"Me and my outside linebackers coach make us do pass drops non-stops and I think I tackle well too. If I get my hands on you, you are going down," Pickett said.
