Roberts talks about decision
When Blake Roberts made his decision Thursday afternoon the join the Horned Frog football program, it signalled to the rest of the Mountain West conference and anyone else paying attention that the Frogs aren't going anywhere anytime soon. PurpleMenace.Com caught up with Blake today to get his thoughts on his decision. So what was it that appealed to Roberts so much that he decided to go ahead and pull the trigger?
"To be honest with you, I've been looking at the Frogs for a while" said Roberts. "I just really liked the school, the coaches were great and the facilities were amazing. Coach Tademy seems like a great guy, I really liked him a lot and there's just so much going on there that I'm excited to get up there. They've got so many new facilties being built, it was just amazing. The football field, the indoor facility, everything is just so nice."
With Roberts's commitment, the Frogs now have two verbals for the 2010 class. With the success the defense has had on the playing field it comes as no surprise that both commitments will line up on the defensive side of the ball. With Roberts giving his commitment to TCU before the process really even got started, the obvious question is, is the Tyler Lee product through with the recruiting process?
"Well, Texas Tech invited me to their junior day but I don't think I'm going to go" said Roberts. "I don't think I'm going to go to any more junior days."
So, is the door shut with his decision made to play for the Frogs?
"As of right now, I'm 100% committed to TCU" said Roberts. "It would have to be a really big offer for me to change my mind. Right now, I'm committed to TCU and I'm happy with my decision."
While that doesn't sound like the door is fully closed, Roberts continued to gush about his visit and the Horned Frog program.
"They have the #1 defense in the nation and they finished ranked #7 in the country last year" said Roberts. "They have a lot to offer me and I really like what they have going on there. As far as a position goes, the coaches told me that I would get a shot at OLB first. I've always played there and that's where I want to play. We'll see how it goes when I get there."
With his senior season on the horizon, Roberts is looking to improve in a few areas. He mentioned that he would like to have a better defense in 2010 but admitted that would be tough to do because of how solid the 2009 defense for Tyler Lee was. When Roberts visited Ft. Worth Thursday, he was measured and weighed. He came in at 6'4" and 226 pounds. If he can maintain his current speed(4.5), Roberts would be a monster in the TCU defense from the linebacker position. With such an early jump on the 2010 class, don't blink or you'll miss the next commitment for the Frogs. Stay tuned to PurpleMenace.Com for all the latest TCU recruiting information.
