Ducks target Compton RB
As will be said repeatedly in this recruiting cycle, the class of 2010 is loaded at running back. James McConico out of Compton high school is one of the west coast runners the Ducks have offered. Duck Sports Authority caught up with him to find out how his recruitment is progressing.
Though he played primarily in games at linebacker as a sophomore, James McConico was an efficient touchdown producing machine for Compton as a junior. With only the fourth most carries on the team, McConico nonetheless led the team with 1234 yards and 14 touchdowns rushing.
"I had a good year last year playing football," recalled McConico. "I had 16 touchdowns. Just about every time I got in the open field, I can almost guarantee I will score a touchdown."
Looking at Compton's passing statistics, that is true. Thrown to twice out of the backfield in 2008, McConico caught both for touchdowns of 70 and 45 yards.
"I also like to catch the ball," McConico stated. "I have never dropped a ball that was thrown to me out of the backfield."
In the rushing department, McConico was efficient as a junior. He averaged 19.9 yards per carry in 62 tries
"I like to follow my block and then get into the open field," explained McConico. "My dad helps me in that area because he is the O-line and the D-line coach."
