Barker bonding with Brock
Cambridge (Mass.) Buckingham Browne & Nichols junior tight end Blake Barker is undoubtedly one of the top prospects on Boston College's recruiting board for the Class of 2010. The 6-foot-6, 230-pound in-state recruit has an impressive offer list and has the Eagles high on his list.
While Barker plans on giving Boston College a particularly close look because of the proximity of the school to his house, he will be looking at plenty of others as well.
Penn State and Syracuse were the most recent schools to offer Barker. Prior to that he had already received scholarships from Boston College, Duke, Maryland, North Carolina and Stanford.
What has the nature of BC's recruitment of him been like recently?
"Basically with BC most of my contact has been with the new tight ends coach (Dave Brock). He's sent me some letters.
"I went to their junior day about three weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Everything there is really good. Every since then they've just been sending me mail and letting me know how interested they are."
Barker just returned from a junior day at Stanford, another school that he plans on giving serious consideration to. What did he think of that experience out west?
"I loved the school and the coaches are great," he said. "They're really trying to turn that program around. Coach Harbaugh was great. I immediately had a good connection with him.
"Location is probably the only thing I'll take into account with them. That might be the only downside."
Barker plans on taking his time with the recruiting process, so don't expect a decision in the immediate future.
