Blue, Memorial aiming for state title

Madison (Wis.) Memorial, widely considered the top prep basketball program in the state of Wisconsin, is currently prepping for their sixth consecutive state tournament appearance.

With a loaded roster which includes Jeronne Maymon, Vander Blue, Junior Lomomba and Tre Creamer, head coach Steve Collins is set to avenge an overtime loss in last year's championship game of the Division I WIAA state tournament.

Tuesday night, BadgerBlitz.com caught up with one of those Memorial stars, Blue, to discuss his teams return trip to State.

"I think we play in one of the toughest conferences in the state," Blue said. "If you take one night off in our conference you will lose. You have to come to play every night and that's what Coach Collins has preached all season.

"When you look at how the Big 8 teams have faired in the tournament it's pretty impressive. Beloit Memorial will be at State. Verona and Madison East both played in sectionals. That's a good showing for our conference."

Blue, who is 15.5 ppg and 5.3 rpg on the season, exploded this weekend during sectional wins against Baraboo and Waunakee. During those two Memorial wins, Blue scored 29 and 20 points, respectively.

"I'd contribute some success last weekend to my confidence," said the Badger verbal. "I'm feeling really confident. As a team we're clicking on all cylinders and we couldn't ask for a better time to do that. We want to get back to the state championship game."

After losing in overtime of last year's championship game against Wauwatosa East, Blue feels this Memorial team has learned a lot from that experience.

"All the teams there want to win a championship just like we do," said Blue, a four-star prospect. "We are going to play every game like it's our last. Last year we feel short and I never want to repeat that feeling. It was really tough. We are focused and are going to take this one game at a time."

Extra quote regarding rumors that Blue has considered de-committing from Wisconsin…..

"I'm solid with Wisconsin. Those were just rumors. Right now I'm just focused on finishing this season. I don't want to let my teammates down. Our main focus is winning a state championship."
