Smith talks new offer

Easton (PA) Wilson Area dual-threat quarterback Tyler Smith had already held offers from Connecticut and Pittsburgh, but a new offer just came in. Smith took some time to talk about his newest scholarship offer from Syracuse.

"My high school coach told me to call them last week and I talked to them and they said they were going to offer. I just got t offer in the mail last Thursday," Smith said. "I was very surprised. I thought I was going to call and just hear them say that they are interested and want me to come up. Then I heard they were going to offer and I was real surprised."

Smith, 6-foot-4, 195 pounds does not know much about the Syracuse program, but he remains encouraged by the things that he hears.

"I think they are going to be turning their program around soon it is a good school, good location. I will have to do more research on it and get up and see some practices, so I can check out the campus and everything. I am real excited about it."

As for a visit to Syracuse goes nothing is set in stone, but things are coming together quick on that front.

"Well hopefully for a spring practice I can get up there. We are going to be looking at dates soon."

Coach Bob Casullo is recruiting Smith for the Orange and the Keystone State product talked about what Syracuse likes about his game and why they offered.

"They liked my film and they liked what they heard about me from other coaches and my high school coach and they went with it."

As a quarterback what sets Smith apart from other quarterbacks in this recruiting class?

"I guess because my high school coach is such a good coach and he helps me to read defenses, so I think I have an advantage because I can go up and get a pre snap read and see what I am looking at defensive wise."

Besides Syracuse two other Big East programs have extended offers while two ACC schools are close to sending out offers.

"I have offers from Pittsburgh and Connecticut. I think that Maryland is close to offering and I have talked with Florida State, they have talked about offering many times."

With offers flowing in at this point a decision is still not going to come soon from Smith.

"I think I am going to narrow my list down in July or August to a couple schools, so I can concentrate on my senior year."
