Four offers in for Prattville athlete
Prattville (Ala.) High School has been synonymous with state championships over the past three seasons. A big part of the most reason state championship was the play of quarterback Sam Gibson. His athleticism and versatility has already earned him four scholarship offers at both wide receiver and quarterback.
"Right now I have offers from UAB, South Alabama, Vanderbilt and Stanford," he said. "Vanderbilt offered me as a receiver and Stanford offered me as a quarterback. South and UAB also offered me as a quarterback."
Along with his four offers, Gibson reeled off a list of schools that he is gaining heavy interest from including Auburn, Alabama, Clemson, LSU, Mississippi State, Southern Miss and UCLA. He has also had a chance to take in several schools during the winter and spring.
"I went to Alabama and Auburn junior days," he said. "I was supposed to go to LSU's but I didn't go. I went to LSU like two weeks ago though to watch them practice. I go to Auburn a lot because it's right down the street from Prattville. Vanderbilt, I went to their junior day and I'm also supposed to be going to an Elite 11 tryout in Georgia."
With four offers already in his hands, Gibson is being told that more could be on the way with some strong performances this summer.
"LSU told me that when I came back down there in the summer, if I do well at their camp, they'll offer me," he said. "Auburn said the same and Alabama. I just started talking to the UCLA coaches and we'll see how that goes."
Though he is a Prattville native, Gibson actually didn't grow up a fan of any of the in-state schools but rather USC and Miami. With no favorites right now, he is open to any school and any offer.
"I'm looking for academics first and then playing time and then the coaching staff," he said. "I don't really have a favorite right now."
As he gears up for the summer camps, Gibson first will be taking part in spring practice and getting a highly-anticipated ring.
"We're on spring break right now," he said. "We've got football, spring training right after we get back from spring break. We get our rings next Sunday. This is my second one."
Gibson tore his ACL as a sophomore and missed the season. During that year he was attending Seffner (Fla.) Armwood. After returning for his junior year to Prattville and leading his team to a state championship, he is hoping to help Prattville go four for four in 2009.
"Our offense is probably going to be our strong point this year because we've got a lot of players returning."
