Still On Top

When he left Waco following his junior day visit in late February, Houston (Tx) Cy-Ridge wide receiver Kevin Johnson indicated that he enjoyed his visit so much that he was close to committing to the Bears when he left. Last weekend Johnson made a return trip to Waco for another visit to the Baylor campus and had another great visit.

"It was great. I had a good time," said Johnson. "I hung out with the coaches and the other guys that were down there. We walked around and got a little more in tune with the campus. We got to see a couple dorm rooms and stuff like that."

After another great visit, did he feel the same as he had following Baylor's junior day?

"I did," he said. "Regardless of how excited I was, I'm still going to try and keep with the schedule that I set out with which was to make a decision after our spring ball. I was very excited when I left. They're still on top of the list. They're in the top three. I really do like them a lot."

Johnson was accompanied on his visit by his parents who both really enjoyed the visit. The oldest rule in recruiting is to follow the mom. If a school can win over the mom, then there's a good chance of landing the recruit.

"They liked it. My mom is really excited about it, but my dad is taking the same approach that I am," said Johnson. "He wants to wait and see all the schools before making a decision."

The 6-2, 190lb receiver was named to the 15-5A first team offense as a junior last season, and should be one of the top receivers in the Houston area next season despite the departure of five star quarterback Russell Sheppard.

Cy-Ridge begins their spring football workouts on Tuesday, and Johnson indicated that he doesn't have any other visits set up for this spring.
