Glenville Linebacker likes Spartans

One of the players that Michigan State Head Coach Mark Dantonio and his staff have their sights on for the class of 2010 is Jayrone Elliott of Glenville High School in Ohio. The Spartans are hoping to ring the bell at that Cleveland Area powerhouse school with an impact player and Elliott could be the perfect fit.

Elliott is a 6-foot-3, 210-pound outside linebacker prospect that the Spartans have been actively recruiting for quite some time now. Not only was Michigan State one of the first teams that offered Elliott, but he was also one of the first players on the recruiting board to get an offer for the class of 2010. We asked Elliott about his scholarship offers.

"YI have 9 scholarships right now," he said. "I have Michigan State, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Purdue, Pitt, Indiana, Ball State, Miami (OH), and Toledo"

The Spartans have been proactive in their recruitment of Elliott. Not only have they had the chance to host him on campus in the past, but they also stopped into Glenville High School the very first week they were allowed to hit the road for the Spring Evaluation Period.

"Coach Narduzzi is my recruiting coach," Elliot said. "He has already been by school. Michigan State likes how I get to the ball and how I am always moving around. All of the schools think I could have a chance to play early."

As with any prospect from Glenville High School, the Ohio State Buckeyes are a team to consider. In recent years the Buckeyes have virtually gotten every player they wanted out of there. That doesn't mean that some very good players have not gone elsewhere though. Some highly ranked prospects have gone elsewhere due to being a better fit or the Buckeyes being stacked at that position.

As for Elliott, the Buckeyes are keeping close tabs on him, but at this point it is a wait and see situation.

Even though it is still relatively early in the recruitng process, Elliott is starting to get an idea of what schools he plans to focus on. Some of the schools near the top of his list are recruiting him the hardest, while others he views as a place where he would be a good fit.

"I could definitely see myself at Michigan State, West Virginia, Maryland, Ohio State and Ball State," he said. I like all of those schools. I plan on visiting a lot of them this summer."

Elliott indicated that he thinks that Glenville Head Coach Ted Ginn will be putting together another college tour trip this summer. Last June, the Glenville prospects stopped into East Lansing during 1-Day of camp and were able to participate with numerous other top recruits from around the Midwest. will be sure to keep an eye of for Elliott when he make sit back up to East Lansing. Coach Dantonio is trying to build a championship defense like the one he had when he helped lead the Buckeyes to the National Title. A player like Elliot could be another key piece to that puzzle.
