Spartans offer Detroit Athlete

A few weeks ago let Michigan State fans know that Tony Lippett of Crockett High School was a player that could see his stock blow-up in the coming weeks. That is exactly what has happened as Lippett had a dominant performance at the Penn State NIKE Camp and subsequently picked up a big-time offer.

This past Saturday the 6-foot-3, 185-pound Lippett outperformed numerous wide receivers that came in with impressive offer list and a bunch of stars next to their name on their recruiting profile.
The following write-up came from Rivals Analyst Mike Farrell who was at the Penn State NIKE Camp:

"Tony Lippett is the quarterback for Detroit (Mich.) Crockett. But he looked like a natural at receiver. He was outstanding in drills, his feet were great, he ran good routes, I thought he was the best wide receiver out here." asked Lippett about his strong NIKE Performance:

"It went very well," he said. "I played wideout down there and I felt unstoppable. I went up against many of the best cornerbacks in my class and they could not check me."

Lippett's performance certainly was not a surprise to the Michigan State staff. The Spartans have been evaluating him closely and hosted him on campus a few weeks ago. Lippett spoke about getting the scholarship from the Green and White.

"I talked to Coach Dantonio at around 8:45 and when he told me that they wanted to offer me a scholarship I dropped my phone full of joy and relief," Lippett said. "I was proud of myself for never giving up. I thought about all the hard work, determination and perseverance and how it paid off."

It is very possible that Lippett could make a decision in the near future. The Spartans want to add some talented wide receivers to the class and Lippett could set the tone for a great group of wideouts. If Lippett does decide to join the Green and White it would not be a surprise if his commitment impacts some other players. Lippett is a well respected athlete in Detroit and that could help land some other talent prospects. ranks Lippett the #18 prospect in the state of Michigan for the class of 2010. That ranking was prior to his recent performance at the NIEK Camp. Don't be surprised if he climbs up the rankings both in the state and nationally now that people know that he has the skill to be a great wideout at the next level.
