Deshields looking for football and baseball
Delino Deshields is one of the most sought after two-sport athletes in the nation right now. Jacketsonline.com caught up with the 5'9" 192-pound athlete and he gives us new info on his recruitment and how his summer is going to shape up.
"I just got done with Baseball," Deshields said. "Last Friday we got beat in the first round of the state playoffs by Druid Hills. The only stats I know of is that I had 12 home runs on the season."
Now with his High School baseball campaign over, Delino looks forward to his busy schedule this summer with the Atlanta Blue Jays travel team.
"The whole month of June, my team is going to play in tournaments in Florida, Louisiana, Alabama and Georgia," he said. "I am going to play in the AFLAC All-American game, Perfect Game, Area Code, East Coast Showcase, and that will be my summer."
This two-sport star also is a standout Football player who is listed as the 55th best Athlete in the 2010 class. Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, UCF, Connecticut, FSU, Purdue, and other schools continue to chase this premier athlete to play both sports in college.
"I have a good relationship with the Georgia Tech coaches; we stay in touch a lot and the same with Ole Miss. I am still waiting on some more offers to come in and after football season next year is probably when I will make my decision. My parents are telling me to keep my options open and just wait it out."
Delino rattled off a short list of schools that are coming at him the hardest in no order to play both Football and Baseball at the next level.
"Oregon, Purdue, Georgia Tech, and Ole Miss are the main ones that come out to see me and contact me the most," he said. "Having a good Baseball program is going to be a big part in my decision."
This is what Delino had to say about a couple of programs in particular.
Ole Miss: "I haven't really followed them much, but what I hear, they are pretty good."
Georgia Tech: "I know a couple of kids there that play on their team right now. I do not really follow them either, but from what I hear they have a great team and a good program."
FSU: "They stopped by my school last week. They have a really good program."
