Rising star OL talks UA
Chester (SC) offensive lineman Kalon Davis has seen his profile, and his offer list, climb through the roof this spring as more and more programs discover the 6-foot-5, 325-pound guard. Big Ten powers Penn State and Wisconsin are the latest offers to come Davis' way and with summer camp season around the corner, Davis expects more offers to come his way soon.
"I haven't set any summer plans yet but I know I will be going to a few camps," said Davis, the nation's No. 22 offensive guard prospect. "I really haven't made any decisions yet mostly because I'm continuing to get new offers every week so the next offer I get could change everything for me."
While Davis doesn't claim any early favorites, there is one program that has been on Davis' mind since his childhood.
"Alabama is a a truly great program, one of the best in college football for sure," Davis said. "I grew up watching them with my dad, who is a big Alabama fan, and now that Nick Saban is there it seems like they are back to being one of the major teams in the country. The thing I really like about Alabama is that even though they just had a great season, their coaches are all focused on making the team better and constantly improving. That says a lot to me that as good as they are now, Coach Saban is still working hard to make the program stronger."
While the Crimson Tide has not yet extended an offer, Davis said he has been in touch with the Tide coaching staff and that he feels optimistic about the prospects of landing an offer.
"Coach (Burton) Burns is recruiting me for Alabama and I always enjoy talking to him. Right now, he says Alabama is still evaluating me and seeing where I might fit in for them. I think they are pretty close to giving me an offer."
Davis said he doesn't want to drag out the recruiting process for too long and that he hopes to have things wrapped up before the start of the season.
"I'd like to hopefully make a decision before the start of my senior year but it all depends on what happens for me in the next few months. Hopefully I will come across the right place for me and I'll be able to make my decision and start getting ready for college."
Davis bench presses 350 pounds, squats 450 and runs the 40-yard dash in 5.1 seconds.
