Louisiana cornerback holding offers
Cornerbacks with speed are a dime a dozen in college football but big cornerbacks with speed are hard to come by. Port Allen (La.) High School cornerback Andre Hal is one of those rare athletes that has both size and speed and because of that combination, he is seeing some serious college interest coming his way.
Recently, Port Allen finished up its spring practice and while Hal was popular among college coaches, he didn't get to spend much time showing them his football abilities. He was still .
"Spring is over now," Hal said. "We had our spring game last Wednesday. It went pretty good. I only practiced one day because we were still in track season. I was kind of mad because they had a whole lot of college scouts out there but I just talked to them."
At 6 feet tall, Hal runs the 200 meters in 22 seconds flat. He also has the hips you want out of a corner.
"I'm probably like one of the tallest corners," he said. "I have good hips, I'm fast, strong, I can cover anybody I feel. Jam man or off man, I can cover in any type of coverage."
Currently, Hal holds offers from Miami-Ohio, Tulane and Arkansas State among others. He also is going to camps at LSU, Alabama, Ole Miss and Georgia Tech. With good performances at camp, Hal feels like more big offers could be on their way.
"That's why I want to go," he said. "I need those big time offers. If LSU offers, you know everyone will offer."
Though he's a Louisiana native and LSU has shown interest, Hal is actually interested in a couple of other programs outside of the state at this point.
"I'm really liking Georgia Tech and Ole Miss," he said. "I just like how they play. Ole Miss beat LSU. I want to go to the underdog. I want to play for the underdog. I'm no five-star recruit. I'm just me and I just play."
As a junior, Hal earned all-district honors with five interceptions, returning two for touchdowns and one punt return for a touchdown.
