Defensive end visiting the ACC

Talented defensive end Kareem Martin from Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina is hitting the road in June and hopes to find the school that he will call home for the next four years. Martin's trips will be exclusive to ACC country and he has already been Charlottesville, so he will be heading south to see Clemson and Georgia Tech at the end of the month.

"I am planning on taking on taking some visits this summer," he said. "I will be going schools close to home like Clemson, Georgia Tech, Duke, and Virginia. I will head over to Clemson and Georgia Tech on the 26 and 28 of June."

Martin is not in a hurry to make a decision, but he would like to have it settled before his senior season begins at Roanoke Rapids High School. He is looking for the right combination of great football and solid academics.

"I might narrow my list down during the summer time. I want to make my commitment before football season starts but it is not that important. Education is very important to me because football will end one day. I do not want to let my hard work in school go down the drain just to get to a school that is all football and no academics. You need a good degree to fall back on one day and I am looking for a school that has a good combination of both."

Since Georgia Tech is strong in both departments, Martin is taking a hard look at the Yellow Jackets.

"Georgia Tech is a great school academically and athletically," he said. "They have been to 12 straight bowl games and are a top 6th ranked public school in the nation. That's something I am looking for in a school."

Martin's relationship with assistant coach Todd Spencer is also another plus for the Yellow Jackets.

"Coach Spencer is recruiting me and he is a really nice guy," he said. "I talked to him a lot and he is a stand up guy. He has some fire to his personality, which I really like. He is really exciting and I like that in a coach."

Most of the ACC has offered Martin and he expects a few more offers to come in the next few weeks.
I have offers from North Carolina, Duke, NC State, Wake, East Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Penn St. Stanford, Clemson, Georgia Tech and Louisville," he said. "I just want to give everyone a fair chance and I don't want to kick anybody off of first appearance or the name. I want to build some good relationships."

Martin will attend North Carolina's camp this summer and they are another school he will heavily considering because he grew up a big Tar Heel fan.

"I grew up a Carolina fan and Ill be going there this summer for camp," he said. "I will have a bunch of questions for all the schools I visit."

Overall, Martin wants to enjoy the recruiting process and find the best possible fit so he can enjoy the college experience and not just be a cog in a football factory at some school.
"When I was younger, my cousin played football and I wanted to try it and it just happened to turn into something special," he said. "It ended up being a blessing for me."
