New OL target emerges
A new offensive line target has emerged for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and this offensive lineman may have been off the radar for a lot of major schools, but his game is perfectly suited for Paul Johnson's offense.
Adairsville senior Catlin Alford is a six-four and 275 pounds offensive and defensive lineman who will be visiting Atlanta on June 13 for the junior/senior camp.
"Right now I am going to Georgia Tech for the junior/senior camp and I am hoping they will offer me there," Alford said. "Tech's at the top of my list and I am just hoping to get that offer."
Some schools are looking at Alford as a defensive lineman, but most of the major schools recruiting him, see him as an offensive lineman. Alford is comfortable at either position and said he enjoys the way coach Johnson uses his offensive linemen.
"I like playing offensive line and I really like the way Georgia Tech uses their offensive linemen and it is a great school and would be a great opportunity to play there," he said.
A pair of Yellow Jacket assistants have been spearheading Alford's recruitment and his relationship with those coaches has improved Georgia Tech's standing. Todd Spencer and Brian Bohannon have the main recruiters for Alford and put in time with him during the May evaluation period.
"I have been in touch with coach Bohannon and coach Spencer at least once a week and we have a good relationship," he said. "Both coaches came by the school during spring practices and that was real exciting. I grew up a big Georgia Tech fan and an opportunity to go there would be amazing. My plan right now is to commit by the last week of summer, so I can concentrate on the upcoming season and my team."
The other school getting a lot of attention from Alford is NC State. Alford plans on going up to Raleigh on June 24 if he can. It should be a two-man race between the pair of ACC schools.
"I'll be at Tech on the 13th and hopefully I can so the coaches I am not just a big guard because their offensive line needs quick guards," he said. "NC State is also close to offering me and I think it will be between them and Georgia Tech, so I am going to try to get up to NC State on the 24."
