Lutcher QB offered by ULM

A recent off-season work out by Luther's State Championship quarterback, Gavin Webster, landed him his first FCS scholarship offer by ULM. The 6'0", 190 pound dual-threat passer impressed quarterbacks Coach Jonas Weatherbie with his solid passing and receiving skills.

"He told me to work out for them and see what happens," Webster said. "I did some qb drills, followed by some receiving drills. I ran the routes real well and it just seemed to come naturally for me."

The potential is high for the speedy Webster to make a position change, come next fall as he enters college; however a sport change could also be in his future after an all-state season with a .518 batting average, eight HRs, and over 40 RBIs. "I have a baseball offer from Louisiana-Lafayette, and they want to see what I can do for them in football too. I want to play quarterback in college, but I can use my abilities anywhere on the field."

Others interested in landing his national signing day signature are Mississippi State, Northwestern State, LSU, and Tulane.

His junior season ended with a class 3-A state championship, after a 17-0 win over Notre Dame in the finals. Perhaps his best game of the season though was in the semi-finals, where he passed for a season-high six TDs and ran for another.

"We had a great run last year. After we lost in week six to St. Charles, things changed with our team and we all just came together, allowing us to make the run to the Dome," Webster said.

Although the Bulldogs will move up a class to 4-A, with the return of Webster and his entire offensive line, Lutcher should once again make a deep playoff run.
