DB talks Tide camp
Hollywood (FL) cornerback Tony Grimes made a name for himself during his junior season amassing over a dozen offers from top programs from the SEC, Big 10, ACC and Big XII. Plenty of schools have been vying for the 6-foot, 166-pound defensive back's attention this summer but last weekend it was the Alabama Crimson Tide who had his attention as he stopped by Tuscaloosa for the Tide's summer camp.
"It was definitely more than I was expecting," said Grimes, rated a three-star prospect by Rivals.com. "It was very intense, very aggressive and very fast-paced. The coaches were great and they were making a real effort to help everybody there get better."
For Grimes, the biggest thrill of the camp was working one on one with Alabama head coach Nick Saban.
"We all got individual sessions with our position coaches so I actually got to work with Coach Saban. He's really intense and he will get on you if you aren't giving it everything you've got. He's not afraid to get out there and show you exactly how it's supposed to be done."
While on campus for the camp, Grimes also got a chance to see the Tide's football facilities and came away impressed.
"The facilities were amazing. I've never seen anything like that weight room. It was incredible."
Grimes plans on taking his time with his final decision so he can take all his official visits this fall, including a potential trip to Tuscaloosa.
"I will probably wait until I've made all my visits before I start to get serious about settling on a school. I'm going to have to decide where to make my visits pretty soon and there are a few schools right now that I know for sure are on the list."
As a junior, Grimes registered 41 tackles and 15 pass break-ups along with five interceptions.
