Spartans gain another commitment

SpartanMag.com just finished catching up with 6-foot-3, 230-pound Taylor Calero of Southfield Christian High School and he confirmed to us that not only was he just offered a scholarship by Head Coach mark Dantonio, but that he decide to become the 5h member the Michigan State recruiting class of 2010.

Calero camped at Michigan State last Friday and had a very strong performance. SpartanaMag.com included Calero on our top sleeper list and our Camp Hot 11 list after watching him in action. He was the only player that made both. We made the following comments:

"Michigan State fans are aware of Calero due to several updates on him from SpartanMag.com. Despite having to deal with a stress fracture in his pelvic bone that makes it painful to change direction, Calero showed plenty of ability in the drills and 1-on-1 portion. Calero was working at defensive end in the 1-on-1's with Gholston and Olaniyan and was more than holding his own against the offensive linemen. His performance was an impressive one, and the fact that he was willing to participate despite being in pain and not 100% shows the type of character he has. Calero's size, speed and motor are going to make some coach very happy."

Calero selected the Spartans over scholarship offers from Indiana, Akron, Toledo and Bowling Green.

What makes Calero's commitmet so key to Michigan State is that he was one of a select few prospect that earned a schoalrship offer at camp.

The Spartsn Camp is the best evaluation tool the coaching staff has. Players that receive offers at camp, have earned the offer. The chances of the player having a succesful career are almost always improved when the staff has been able to evaluate them first hand.
