Illness doesn't stop Oklahoma lineman
If there is one sickness that is guaranteed to bench an athlete for its duration at any point of his or her career it's mono. Fortunately for Jenks (OK) offensive tackle Bob Graham, the illness struck during May, not leaving him absent from any season playing time.
Still, there is a lot of work to do during spring workouts such as strength and conditioning.
"I actually got mono during the last three weeks of school," said Graham. "Really right now I am just trying to recover from that and get stronger."
Currently the Class 6A Jenks Trojans are participating in both speed and strength camps as they prepare to make a run at their 13th ever state championship and sixth since 2000. Last season Jenks fell in the state championship game to rival Union 34-20.
While recruiting has slowed down a bit over the summer, Graham is sitting on 10 offers, the most recent coming from Iowa State over the Fourth of July weekend. Outside of living in the heart of Big Twelve country, Graham says he doesn't know too much about ISU, but is planning to take an unofficial visit there this summer.
"During the Fourth of July weekend I got an offer from Iowa State-I think that was my most recent one. It was from Luke Wells."
Standing at 6-foot-5, 280 pounds, it's pretty obvious why Graham is so appealing to FBS coaches, but one place he was not expecting a lot of attention from was the Mountain West Conference, more specifically the Front Range. Graham has offers from Air Force, Colorado State and Wyoming.
"I wasn't really expecting their attention, it was kind of shocking at first. I hadn't heard from any of those schools and when I had heard that they had offered me it was kind of random. I really don't know too much about them other than what the coaches have told me."
With the three offers from MWC schools and 10 total, it looks as if Graham might even add a few more once the season starts, including his first from the Pac-10.
"Texas Tech and Arizona said that they want to watch a few games of my senior year then they will most likely offer. I'm also talking to Oklahoma State a little bit."
The Jenks, Okla. native says he is planning on going to the Oklahoma State camp next week. So far that's the only camp he is planning on attending.
In this long list of offers, do any schools stand out above the rest? Possibly a rough list of top schools?
"I don't have any top schools right now, I just want to look at everybody. My list is pretty much even across the board, I haven't narrowed it down to anyone."
While no plans are being made for official visits during the fall, Graham said he would like to take an unofficial to Western Kentucky and Louisville sometime before school starts.
