Wells reacts after weekend camps

Lawrence County (Miss.) four-star athlete Matthew Wells was hoping that taking a visit to both Mississippi State and Ole Miss' camps this past weekend would separate one school.

But the plan backfired for the 6-foot, 190-pounder as his interest in both schools increased after his visits.

"I was trying to feel which one I liked the most but both of them are pretty good," Wells said. "I like both of the coaching staffs and both of the head coaches are cool. I think that basically made it even harder."

Wells traveled to Starkville on Friday night for the Big Dawgs Camp under the lights at Davis Wade Stadium. He did not participate in any of the drills but got a chance to get to know the coaching staff better as well as seeing a side of the program he never expected.

"I didn't workout at the camp but I just went up there to see all the coaches and watch them coach everybody else," Wells said. "I made it to State kind of late so I missed all the forties but I saw the little drills they had at the end and the one-on-ones. I just talked to the coaches mostly and then I went and watched the team workout that night at 11. That was pretty crazy. They had guys painted up with their faces painted, masks and all kinds of crazy costumes and everything. I have never seen anything like that."

While on campus, Wells took the opportunity to inquire about MSU's new head coach Dan Mullen from some of the 2009 signing class as well as the 2010 commitments that were on hand. What he found out was the same opinion that he had gathered.
