MSU coach's son still deciding

Many people assume that just because Jay Hughes' father, Tony Hughes[/db ], is the safeties coach and recruiting coordinator at Mississippi State that it is a foregone conclusion that he will also be a Bulldog.

While there is still very much a possibility that the 5-foot-11, 175-pound three-star athlete could land in Starkville he is also considering the other eight schools that have offered as well.

"I tell everybody all the time that it isn't a fact that I'm going to Mississippi State just because my dad coaches there," Hughes said. "I'm not sold on one school just because my dad is there."

Hughes also has offers on the table from Duke, Ole Miss, Southern Miss, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, West Virginia, Louisiana Tech and Tulsa. Four of those offers - MSU, Ole Miss, Southern Miss and Louisiana Tech are all schools his father has coached at.

"I think that kind of gives me an edge because my dad has a feel of what kind of people are going to be there," Hughes said. "That is going to be one of the determining factors that is going to help me make my decision but I think it's just coincidental that they have all offered me."

Having a father with over two decades of coaching experience is also quite an advantage. Hughes stated he does seek his father's advice when it comes to recruiting.
