Stallworth ahead of schedule
Senior running back Arnil Stallworth was not projected to return from a torn ACL suffered in the spring until at least Septmeber.
But when fall camp began last week, there was Stallworth dressed out with his teammates taking part in drills and estimates he is 80-percent back from the injury and expects to make a full recovery.
"I've been training to come back since the spring," Stallworth said. I didn't actually expect to be back practicing like this but I've been training real hard and I'm thankful to be able to go out here and run."
Stallworth credits MSU strength coach Matt Balis and the training staff with helping him get back on the field ahead of schedule. He has had two to three rehab sessions daily since the spring.
Stallworth has been taking reps on a limited basis as he eases back into the swing of things in preparation for the Sept. 5 opener against Jackson State.
"Practice has been going good," Stallworth said. "I haven't been getting the same number of reps as everybody else. I'm just taking it day by day and taking every other rep. I'm getting back into the groove of things though."
When the injury first occurred, Stallworth feared the worst but believes it has been a blessing in disguise after having successful surgery on his left knee.
