South Florida speedster makes selection
Ole Miss is one of the sexiest picks in college football when discussing the upcoming season. On Sunday, that hype and notoriety helped land a speedster from south Florida.
Miami (Archbishop Carroll) running back Jeff Scott (5-foot-8, 170) hasn't been to Oxford, Miss., for a visit yet, but even without a personal appearance in Mississippi, the three-star running back alerted Ole Miss of his commitment.
Scott also held offers from Florida International, Troy and Colorado State.
"Ole Miss is where my heart is," Scott said. "There are a lot of reasons. They can prepare me for the next level, and I have some friends that are there. Freshmen Frank Crawford and Charles Sawyer talk great about the place and say they love it."
Scott has been timed as fast as 4.33 in the 40-yard dash and was recently clocked at 4.39 at a camp at Florida International. Scott was a first team All-Dade county small school selection in 2008 after rushing for 1,393 yards and 23 touchdowns.
"The Ole Miss coaches are really cool and think I have the speed to play in the SEC," Scott said. "I'll have the chance to play next year and not redshirt. They told me I'd have the opportunity to get snaps and possibly start."
Scott has scheduled his official visit to Oxford for October 10, the date of the Ole Miss - Alabama game.
"I wouldn't have minded seeing the campus first, but I'm very confident with my decision. I hear it's a great place, and it would take something huge to get me from being 100 percent committed."
