Camp proves team speed on the rise

Training camp is coming down to the homestretch and one thing that has been very noticeable, besides the play of the behemoths, is the drastic improvement of team speed. The Bruins may have signed the fastest class in the nation last year. The Bruin football team could line up a pretty formidable 4x100 team.

You have Randall Carroll, who ran a 10.3, Sheldon Price ran 10.5, Damien Thigpen ran a 10.6 and Ricky Marvray came in with a 10.88. That's not including, Josh Smith who is scheduled to join the team on September 1st, just a little food for thought.

As always, Coach Rick Neuheisel, met with the media after practice to answer questions.

Neuheisel: "What I thought was a really good practice was marred by a late injury to Micah Kia. We'll have to see what the extent of that injury is. He has been having a good camp.

"It's sad to see two seniors, Nick Ekbatani and Kia, falter to injury. But this game does that. It gives an opportunity for someone else, whoever it is will have to pick up the flag and move on. But I think Kia will be back. He's just that kind of guy. He's worked hard this season.

"They were just competing, we hadn't made any decision about how we're going to go about on game day. We're just trying to get everyone as many reps as they can get.

"Kia will have an MRI tonight or tomorrow morning."
