Tide in top 5 for WR
Belle Chasse (LA) wide receiver James Wright established himself as one of the top receivers in the nation last season when he hauled in over 1,000 yards receiving and 18 touchdowns as a junior. This spring, he was hauling in scholarship offers from around the country and has now narrowed his list down to a top five that includes the Crimson Tide.
"I'm hearing from Alabama pretty regularly right now. They are clearly still interested and I'm interested in them. They are in my top five along with Texas Tech, LSU, Tennessee and Florida."
Wright's relationship with Alabama assistant Burton Burns has been key for the Crimson Tide's strong early standing with the nation's No. 40 wide receiver prospect.
"Coach Burns is a really good guy, very easy to talk to. We have a good relationship that we've built up and even though I haven't set visits yet, I'm pretty sure I'll take one to Alabama because I'd like to talk to Coach Burns more in person."
Another thing working in the Tide's favor for Wright is Jim McElwain's balanced offensive attack, something Wright said he believes will help receivers be more productive.
"Alabama's offense is really a great fit for me I think. It's a balanced attack which means it's going to keep defenses honest. They aren't going to be able to load up and double-team wide receivers very often because they have to worry about the run. I wouldn't want to play in an offense where the defense knew I'd be getting the ball every play."
"I see myself as more of a slot receiver just because I've done it more but I can definitely play outside as well. I think I'm a pretty well-rounded receiver."
As a junior, Wright hauled in 58 catches with an average of 17.9 yards per catch. He also carried the ball 22 times for 215 yards and 3 touchdowns.
