GoldandBlack.com: How excited are you for the season to begin?
King:
"I'm really excited man. It seemed like it just ended yesterday, the season we just came off of. Not just me, but as a whole, we're just really excited to be back on the field. It's going to be about proving a lot of people wrong this year. We're just really excited to hit somebody, really."

GoldandBlack.com: We know expectation No. 1 is to win, but what other things are you expecting from this team?
King:
"We're looking to be really aggressive and just not make many mistakes and be a big-play team. I think last year, we made too many mistakes. We want to be a mistake-free football team this year and really play fast and not think, just play."

GoldandBlack.com: Like yourselves, Toledo has a first-year head coach. Does that make it more difficult to scout the Rockets?
King:
"It's been hard because there's really no film on them. We've got film on their head coach and their personnel, but not where they're all together doing their thing. It's been a little difficult, but like any good team we'll adjust and take it play-by-play and go from there."

GoldandBlack.com: From a defensive standpoint, does it help to have a veteran unit, in that you might be able to adjust on the fly?
King:
"It helps because it ain't just me, Torri (Williams) and David (Pender) knowing everything. It's the whole defense, we've all been through it. We've got one or two new rookies in there, like KK (Short) and he really hasn't seen it all, but as an overall group, we've been through it all. There's nothing we really haven't seen and nothing we're not going to be ready for."

GoldandBlack.com: Is it remarkable to think where the secondary is now, so highly regarded, considering it was only a few years ago …
King:
"We were in the slums man. You turn on the tape, you didn't want to watch the secondary doing anything. We've come a long way, let me say that, from being my freshman year 'til now. Never did I think we'd be as good as we are now, just being realistic. I knew there was a chance we'd be good but you really didn't see it until we got here last year in mid-season form. We were playing really good football and coming from the spring and fall camp, we're going to be even more exciting."

GoldandBlack.com: A lot of people might feel like they know a lot about the defense, but little about the offense. What can you tell us about them?
King:
"They gave us a lot of headaches during camp and spring ball. They're going to be exciting, like any other Purdue offense in their prime, their good years. They're going to move the ball, do what they do and try to put as many points on the board as they can."

GoldandBlack.com: With that said, do you expect to surprise some people this season?
King:
"We will surprise, because a lot of people don't know about our offense - they know more about the defense - but our offense, they're going to shock a lot of people. And overall, as a team, we're going to shock a lot of people with how fast and physical we are."
