EMCC tackle not satisfied with No. 2 ranking

East Mississippi Community College is one of the top teams in the country thanks in part to their stellar offensive line.

Anchoring that offensive line is right tackle Quartney Cox, who has the Lions off to a 3-0 start and averaging 32 points a game. But even a No. 2 national ranking hasn't satisfied the 6-foot-3, 270-pounder.

"We haven't been playing up to standards so far," Cox said. "But we're polishing up every week so soon we will be at the championship level. We do have a bull's eye but we approach every game and don't overlook anybody. We don't pay attention to rankings and that kind of stuff. We just play ball."

EMCC will be tested this week when they host Gulf Coast Community College on Thursday. The Lions upset the then No. 2 ranked Gulf Coast squad last season with two late touchdowns in the fourth quarter with a 27-23 win.

"We are expecting them to want some revenge," Cox said. "But other than that we are expecting a good game and in the end I hope we come out with the 'W'."

Cox and the rest of his offensive line teammates will have their hands full trying to block the talented Gulf Coast defensive front headlined by Wayne Dorsey and James Carmon.
