Free Preview: Philip Rauscher is one to watch

Philip Rauscher (6-4, 237, 4.78) from Carlsbad (Calif.) La Costa Canyon has been a constant camper at UCLA. He first camped at the UCLA one-day camp in early June and liked it so much he attended the four-day camp in late June.

Rauscher plays linebacker on the high school level, but he may grow into a defensive end in college. He is somewhat of a an unknown commodity going into his senior season due to the fact that he sat most of his junior season because of an injury. Many schools know about Rauscher, but are giving him a wait and see attitude because of his injury.

Rauscher suffered a chipped bone in his neck, but the injury required no surgery. He is now 100% healed and can hardly wait to get back out on the field and hit somebody.

Though Rauscher was hurt, he didn't lose much strength. He benches 345 pounds, squats 480 and cleans 280. He recorded a 28-inch vertical at the Bruin camp. Rauscher ran a decent 4.4 shuttle at the Nike combine held at USC last April.

The scouting report on Rauscher is he has good size and feet. He's an aggressive, physical player who plays the game with passion.

Rauscher has the skills schools like and he has a healthy list of schools corresponding with him.

Both local schools UCLA and USC are looking as is the rest of the Pac10. Colorado, Colorado State, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Wisconsin, Boise State, UNLV, San Diego State, Air Force, Navy and host of other colleges including the Ivy's are interested in tracking the progress of Rauscher's senior season.

"I learned a lot at the UCLA four-day camp," Rauscher said. "I learned a lot from coach Dove. He's a great coach."

"I camped at both UCLA and USC and loved them both," Rauscher said. "I would love to play at either school."

Another thing that schools like about Rauscher is his long snapping skills. His long-snapping talent only enhances his recruitment.

Many of the nation's best schools will be watching Rauscher this season. BruinBlitz will too.

Stay tuned…
