Georgia's top kicker gives commitment to the Seminoles
Florida State landed its fourth commitment over the weekend when kicker Chase Goggans from Coffee County High School in Douglas, Georgia told the Seminole coaches he planned on signing with the Seminoles. Goggans' brother confirmed with Warchant.com that the first team all-region kicker had pledged his services to FSU during an unofficial visit.
The 5'9", 160-pound place-kicker will likely be responsible for kickoffs next year while Xavier Beitia, who will be a junior in 2003, will continue to handle extra points and field goals.
Entering his senior season, Goggans made 26 field goals out of 36 attempts with a long of 54 yards in his career. He also has 15 field goals more than 40 yards and is 55 for 57 on his point-after attempts and 75 percent of his kickoffs reach the end zone.
Goggans was also looking at Georgia, East Carolina, Michigan, and Texas. He joins Marcus Thomas - DL (6-3/280) from Jacksonville, FL (Mandarin), John Frady - OL (6-4/275) from Jacksonville, FL (Bolles) and Chauncey Davis - DE (6-2/260) from Ellisville, MS (Jones JC) as early commitments for the class of 2003.
