The #1(NYC)/#41(Nat'l) ranked Abraham Lincoln Railsplitters and the # 2(NYC)/#42(Nat'l) ranked Boys & Girls Kangaroos went to Milwaukee, WI to represent New York City in the Brandon Jennings Invitational.
Both teams would have impressive performances at Saturday's event as they faced off against national talent.
Menomonee Falls to Lincoln, 75-61
First up was the Lincoln Railsplitters (17-2) who played against Menomonee Falls (WI), a local team to the area. Taking a 34-20 lead into the locker room, the Railsplitters from Brooklyn, NY would control the game. Shaquille Stokes led the way with 17 points as a 7-0 run gave Lincoln them a 21 point lead with 1:06 left in the third. At the end of three, Menomonee Falls was still down by twenty and would ultimately lose by 14. Reuben King contributed 14 points with 6'11" Jordan Dickerson almost getting a double-double with 8 points and 12 rebounds.
Boys & Girls Freezes Winter Park in OT, 81-79
Not to be out done, the Kangaroos had their hands full against Florida's Winter Park squad. The #27 nationally ranked team also featured nations #1 ranked player, Austin Rivers.
In the first quarter, Boys & Girls would get the upper hand as they led, 24-17. Rivers, who was somewhat contained in the first quarter began to assert himself and closed the gap. Tied at thirty Roos 5'7" senior point guard Antoine Slaughter would nail a trey at the buzzer that kept the Brooklyn team ahead, 43-40 at the half.
In the third quarter, Winter Park would again make a run at Boys & Girls taking the lead by a point going into the fourth quarter. The Kangaroos would remain stead fast and regain the lead which they maintained with about 3:45 left to play in regulation but Winter Park would take the game into overtime knotted at 71.
The Roos would again take the lead but Rivers would show why he's tops, swishing a step back trey while being closely guarded to tie the game at 75 with just over a minute left to play. As time wound down it the game was tied at 79 but a lay by Jeff Neverson at the buzzer would give the Kangaroos the upset win. Mike Taylor led Boys & Girls with 17 points. Rivers scored a game high 35 points in the loss.
