Free Preview: Idris Moss will red shirt

When BruinBlitz was out at the freshmen practice yesterday August 14th we were able to sit down and have a chat with incoming freshman Idris Moss (5-11, 165, 4.5).

Folks close to Rialto (Calif.) Eisenhower told BB that Moss was one of the finest players and playmakers to ever come out of the school. For those of you who know about Ike high school, that is quite a statement.

Moss was recruited as a corner, but was called by the by the staff and asked if he would like to play wide receiver. "I told them I don't care if they wanted me to be the punter," Moss said. "I'm just glad to be part of the Bruin family."

Tell me you don't love this young man already.

Moss underwent shoulder surgery on April 23rd due because of numerous shoulder separations. The pain of not playing hurts Moss far more than the actual physical pain.

Moss will red shirt because of the surgery, but this kid has fire and intensity. This young man will be ready to go next spring and we think he could be the talk of spring practice.

"I hate the thought of red shirting because I want to compete," Moss said. "I'm going to use this red shirt year to my advantage. I'm going to learn the system inside and out so when called upon next spring I will be ready."

UCLA won the services of Moss over archrival USC, ASU, Washington and Wisconsin.

Why did UCLA win this intense recruiting battle?

"I loved the area and it's only an hour away from home," Moss said. "It's a great school and my Dad graduated from UCLA. My love for the school runs deep."

"UCLA pride and tradition go way for me," Moss said. "I've been a Bruin since I was little."

This is what BruinBlitz had to say about the talented Mr. Moss in our LOI wrap-up:

DB Idris Moss (6-0, 170, 4.5) from Rialto-Eisenhower (CA) is a superb all-around athlete who has played WR, S, CB and QB one time or another for Eisenhower. Idris lined up behind center for the last two seasons and was dazzling. He threw for 1,533 yards and 13 TDs while rushing for 559 more yards and 10 TDs on the ground. As fantastic as Moss was on offense, he projects as a cornerback for the Bruins.
