As he promised a day earlier, Long Beach (Calif.) Poly wide receiver Josiah Blandin gave Arizona State a verbal commitment Monday.
Blandin, 6-foot-4, 185 pounds, spoke with receivers coach and his recruiter Steve Broussard to give him the news.
"I just talked to coach Broussard about 20 minutes ago and he said he would tell coach Erickson for me and maybe I'll talk to coach Erickson tomorrow, we'll see," Blandin said.
ASU emerged as an early favorite for Blandin when it became the first BCS school to offer a scholarship, and his experience at the school's junior day provided enough confidence to make the pledge.
"I just feel it's the perfect fit for me," Blandin said.
Blandin said Cal, Miami, Nebraska, Oregon State, UCLA, USC and Washington were other colleges showing interest at the time of his commitment.
Last season, playing with a loaded wide receiver group at Poly that includes Rivals250 Watch list Richard Smith and Randall Goforth, both of whom also have ASU offers, Blandin had 14 catches for 214 yards and two touchdowns.
Those and other players from the school accompanied Blandin on the visit to ASU Saturday.
"Every single one I came out there with felt the way I did or even better," Blandin said. "The closest one to committing, the one most likely, is Randall. I'm trying to get every guy that has been offered by Arizona State at my school to go there. We'll just come out as a unit."
Blandin was a standout at several high profile 7-on-7 events and tryouts recently, but at Sunday's Nike Camp he didn't get a full opportunity to show what he could do, as he was injured mid-workout.
"We were in half skill which is half 7-on-7 and I went in a go route and the safety didn't go for the ball, he just hit me and so I came down on my shoulder and broke my collarbone," Blandin said. "I'm going to make sure I get healthy, go to physical therapy and all that and get right. I guess it's better now than later."
Blandin said he expects to be out about 10 weeks as he recovers from the injury. But he's planning returning to ASU prior to the conclusion of the team's spring football.
"I can't wait to get back out there," he said.
Blandin is the second overall commitment, and second receiver to pledge the Sun Devils in the 2012 class, joining fellow southern California receiver Kenny Lawler.
